Amigos de la taberna me hago una rapida pasada poir aqui a dejarles el ultimo trabajo de los alemanes de Powerwolf son una de las bandas jóvenes que intenta resucitar el alicaído movimiento del Power Metal. El mayor merito de este grupo es que ha mejorado sustancialmente con cada trabajo que saca al mercado y este nuevo álbum no es la excepción. Bible of the Beast es sin duda alguna su mejor trabajo hasta la fecha y uno de los mejores lanzamientos del genero en lo que va del año.
Con su anterior placa titulada Lupus Dei, Powerwolf se separo del grupo de los "genericos" a base de buenas composiciones y un trabajo conceptual muy bien manejado. Con Bible of the Beast, el grupo retoma sus aciertos y los pule de mejor forma, dando como resultado un disco con más enganche y más fuerza, y que además posee un setlist muy consistente que lleva al escucha de la mano de principio a fin.
Entre los puntos positivos del disco podemos mencionar el gran trabajo de guitarra y bajo. La parte rítmica es impecable, con mucho mas peso que sus discos anteriores, pero conservando la velocidad que caracteriza al Power Metal. Los riffs no tienen nada de especial, sin embargo, están bien ejecutados y mas importante aun tienen el lugar que les corresponde en la melodía. Ninguno sobra, todos suenan como una maquina bien aceitada. Cabe también destacar el buen uso que la banda da al órgano. Dicho instrumento permite darle una atmosfera mas obscura a los temas, impulsándolos de forma muy positiva.
Los coros son también otro factor determinante. A diferencia de sus predecesores, Bible of the Beast explota la voz de Attila Dorn en su totalidad. Las líneas vocales son Impresionantes de corte muy épico al estilo Sabaton, creando coros que queres cantar a los cuatro vientos. De hecho, muchas canciones del disco abren de golpe con el coro, tal es el caso de temas como Moscow After Dark, Seven Deadly Saints, We take the church by storm entre otros. Dicha premisa musical es un arma de doble fijo ya que puede enaltecer el tema o lo puede tornar en algo monótono y repetitivo. Por suerte, la monotonía empachosa no se hace presente en este trabajo. Estos son coros muy bien manejados.
En cuanto al aspecto lirico, esta claro que Powerwolf tiene una temática muy definida. Ya en su disco anterior habían creado una atmosfera alrededor de la religión católica y en este disco continúan con esa tendencia. Eso si, estos alemanes no se limitan a lanzar pedradas e insultos sin sentido a la iglesia. Las letras están bien trabajadas dentro del concepto que maneja el disco.
Resumiendo, Bible of the Beast es un álbum ganchero, repleto de temas contundentes que corren por las venas de quien los escucha. En pocas palabras, un discazo.

Nowadays it's not really easy to find good Power Metal (and I'm not talking about US Power). A lot of bands do mega melodic fast music but in general this is weak and boring in the end and I still don't understand how some metalheads can be attracted by all those newcomers... The funny thing is that we will have to cross the ocean to find good new Power Metal act a la European sauce, and if you don't know them yet I hope that you'll remember their name which is Southern Cross.Down Below is a Power Metal release which doesn't lack of energy and big riffs. The thing here is that the songs aren't "happy" if you see what I mean and we even have some Death vocals sometime in addition of some thrashy riffs. I cannot say that Southern Cross can be compared to [band]Iced Earth[/b] which is a lot more aggressive in general but Down Below is not a new Dragonforce too. The Canadians have guts and play powerful music which is improved by some interesting keyboards lines which add a real Prog touch to the music. Sometime we're not even so far of [band]Andromeda/[band] like on "Undisclosed" for example. Don't believe that it's pure Prog too but these additions are nice and give certain originality to the music. This is just too bad that some songs like "Weak And Sober" are a bit too mellow but all in all this is obvious that Southern Cross is getting better with time, Down Below being better than and a lot more personal than the previous album.The production is also better and it's obvious that all the guys sound more confident in their way to play music. Down Below is a typical album which follow a good progression, this is not perfect yet but it sounds like a real evolution in the short career of Southern Cross. If the band can follow this way and even add some more violence to their future songs, it should be perfect! They have good tunes and catchy melodies, that's promising really.Southern Cross is what Power Metal should be. Big riffs, blasting double bass drums (of course…) but deep melodies with "something else" (here the Prog lines of the keyboards)! If you're into Power and are looking for something a bit more original, Down Below is for you and I'm even sure that fans of some other metal genres will like it… Why couldn't you try?
